How quickly things can change

Memphis was only 9 days old when we had to rush him to the hospital with a fever. Once we got there they hooked him up to all sorts of machines and put an iv in with fluids and antibiotics. They started to do tests to determine what was causing the fever. Our baby was very sick.
They found out that he had sepsis and quickly moved him to the picu so he was under constant care. They sedated him a bit and put a central line in for antibiotics, fluids and a place to draw and give blood. This was one of the hardest days of our lives.
By the fifth day in the picu Memphis had turned around and started to do much better. He got to return to our room with us, we were so happy! The doctors wanted to keep him in the hospital until all of his labs came back negative for 10 days straight. His labs began looking good, the only thing that he was still in need of was a blood transfusion because his red blood cells were still too low. He really perked up after that! We finally heard him exercise his lungs...hehe I think he was just too weak before!
Between all of the tests and x rays they did they found out that his left ureter was disfunctional and he has a direticulum on his bladder. Because of this his urine refluxes back up into his kidney which caused the major infection. Memphis had to have surgery to correct it before we left the hospital. They took his ureter to the skin and his urine drains from his belly right into his diaper. Once he is around five or six months old they will go in and take the direticulum off of his bladder and reattach his ureter. He will be all fixed up!
Everyone at the hospital fell in love with Memphis and everyone that worked with him took such great care of him it was unbelievable! We love Presbyterian main! I also want to thank everyone that had Memphis in their prayers. It was those prayers that took care of my little man and kept us going. We are truly blessed.
Jeffrey, me and the baby were couped up in a room together at the hospital for two weeks and it was....wonderful, considering the circumstances. I am so thankful that I got to watch him so closely those first few weeks of his life.
